You get fit to run, not run to get fit.
Something i have learnt this summer is you need to have a good level of fitness before you start running. This may sound as an oxymoron as we often see adverts saying run to get fit.
I disagree. If we are totally unfit, the last thing we should do is go for a run. That is why so many people start running and after a few attempts, they stop.
What we should be doing is start slowly. Maybe start walking, cycling or swimming. Lower impact sports to help build our fitness first.
Once we have reached a reasonable level of fitness, then we could start running to get fitter.
